In 2001 the QUAESTOR Group purchased the Győr Stadium owned by the former Rába Company Ltd., a neighbouring plot of several hectares as well as the Hungarian Premier League football (soccer) team, Győr ETO FC, which was established in 1904 but drifted to the verge of bankruptcy by 2001. First the club’s massive debt was settled. Then complex measures were taken to reinvigorate every component of club life. Only after that did work start on property development plans. The strategic plans were completed by 2005. Renovation of the stadium started in the same year and was completed in 2009. The new stadium has a capacity of 16,000. The home of Győr ETO FC has been constructed according to UEFA standards and is currently Hungary’s most modern football stadium. Apart from the main pitch it has several training pitches and the facility can host various entertainment events and concerts. The revenues from these events contribute to the funding of the football club.
In addition to running the professional football club, other strategic objectives have been established, including the training of junior players. To this end the QUAESTOR Group established a center for the training of junior players, which currently coaches over 400 youths. The football team’s star has been rising in parallel with the development of the mixed-use ETO Park. Győr ETO FC won three bronze medals after QUAESTOR took over the team, then it has broken several club records and has won the top division football championship in Hungary in the 2012-13 season, for the fourth time since its foundation and has thus qualified for the 2013-14 UEFA Champions’ League. The four-times Hungarian champion and four-times Hungarian Cup winner team was awarded with the Family Friendly Club title in 2011 and then again in 2013. In addition, the team’s fans were awarded with the Fans of the Year title in 2013.
